Can you please help me with this debate subject?

I have to do a debate in cl, and my team was igned "The president of the USA should be elected by the direct vote of the people." We are supporting why they should be voted by the direct vote of the people and not just the electoral votes. I have to do the real, and i'm really shy and so far have like nothing i can really think of. im not a debater -.- So can you please help me create ideas to support this idea?
