Help please - Little boys using the toilet!?

The only thing I could do with my wee boy was teach him to tuck his willy down while going and thoroughly wash his hands afterwards. At 26 months and just potty trained, I would say it's a bit young to start teaching to stand up, especially if he is still making a mess.
