Kinda long, but I am just puzzled by this boy! Help!!?

Ok, crazy story. Three years ago, I met a guy. He was dating a girl. We grew to be amazing friends. We teased each other and stuff, but were platonic. Secretly I liked him a LOT, and thought he liked me just as much. 1 yr later, and him and the gf break up for personal reasons. 1 month pes and we suddenly don't talk. Afterwards, he begins talking to me a LOT! Pretty much all day. It would be intense flirting, teasing, calling, texting, chatting for hours etc. Then I find out one day he will be moving in a year back to his hometown for a year prior to graduate school :( He claimed he did not want a real relationship until after a few years and that he does not want a long distance one. Him and I finally have "The talk" about us, and he pretty much said he liked me as a friend and I agreed that is what I felt too, BUT his actions seemed completely different. Ever since this "chat" of ours, we've been hanging out, flirting more, calling and talking until 3am, chatting for hours, etc. A week ago, he got a girlfriend back in his hometown. A girl he's been friends with for 8 yrs. I tried to cut off all contact with him, cause I was pretty hurt, but he just wouldn't let that happen. We are again back to how things were...but I just don't know if I am doing the right thing. He leaves in 2 weeks possibly forever and my heart just aches thinking of it. What is he thinking?!?! Are we really just friends?
